Have you ever looked into the mirror and felt disgusted and cheated by god because of an embarrassing, utterly misshaped feature? Or has age taken its toll on you only that it’s too early? Do those pockets of fat never seem to leave your body no matter how hard you work and the process has drained you emotionally and physically? Fret no more because it’s the 21 st century and there’s cosmetic surgery for your rescue.

Although extreme measures such as surgical procedures are not recommended for correction of slight imperfections but if you genuinely have a problem that cannot be solved short of surgery it is now pretty safe to go through them. One has to be educated about what a surgery involves exactly. Precautions and the surgeon’s instructions should be followed precisely. Emotional preparation is the most important aspect of the entire procedure. It is to be realized that you are going to be altered permanently and hopefully for good.

There are surgeries available for correction or enhancement for almost every problem you can think of. Here’s a list of all popular COSMETIC SURGERY PROCEDURES that are prevalent today and a summary of their uses and technique.

Rhinoplasty: in layman’s terms a nose job. The nose can be reshaped i.e., the size can be trimmed, increased, or decreased, removal of humps or bridges, alteration of the size of nostrils are also possible. Even some respiratory problems can also be helped. The procedure lasts for about 1-2 hours and local or general anesthesia is given. One can expect to be back to work in about 1-2 weeks and can undertake strenuous activities after 3-4 weeks. It is advisable to avoid getting sunburn for about 8 weeks at least. The final result can only be seen after a year.

Gynecomastia: or better understood as male breast reduction is the procedure to remove enlarged female like breasts in men by trimming excess glandular tissues. Sometimes liposuction also works just as well. The procedure takes about an hour or more and general or local anesthesia is used for sedation. The recovery period is bout 3-7 days by which you should be able to go back to work. For more extensive activities wait for about 3 weeks. The procedure gives permanent results.

Liposuction: lipid for fat and suction for removing by sucking out is by far the most popular form of surgery ever. The only solution for removing exercise resistant fat from the most problematic areas like saddlebags, love handles, abs, hips, arms, you name it. A vacuum tube is used to suck the fat from the exact location of fat. A newer version of this technique UAL ultrasound assisted liposuction involves liquefying the fat before liposuction with the help of an ultrasound probe. Local, epidural, or general anesthesia can be used as per the requirements. The procedure lasts for about 1-2 hours or more if there are complications. It should be known that liposuction will not remove cellulite. Again you can expect to be back for work in about 1-2 weeks and completely recover in 3-4 weeks. A good exercise regime and a healthy diet are advised to maintain the effect of liposuction or you stand to lose everything you benefited from it.

Otoplasty: a surgery performed on the ears to pull back their prominent look by making them closely tucked to the head. Even big sized ears can be fixed by reducing their size through this surgery. It is generally performed on children of the ages 4-14. The procedure lasts for almost 2-3 hours. Children can be expected back at school in about 6-7 days. For more hardcore sports etc. a healing period of about 45-60 days is required.

Blepharoplasty: involves the correction of drooping eyelids or puffy bags below the eyes by removal of excess fat, skin, or muscle from that area. Mostly local anesthesia is used. You can read comfortably within 2-3 days. Before that you may experience double vision or blurriness etc. 7-10 days are required for healing to be socially fit.

Rhytidectomy: the more popular term “face lift” is more apt for this procedure. Sagging loose facial and neck skin can be tightened and made much young looking by tightly redraping the skin over the face and then cutting out the excess surgically. It is an extreme and drastic operation and should undertaken after much thought and clarity of purpose being precise. The redness can stay for months and it could be years before you see the final lasting results. Sun should be avoided at all costs for 2-3 months post surgery.

Brow lift or forehead lift: best done with the help of an endoscope, it can remove the worry and frown lines from your forehead, lift up droopy eyebrows and minimize hooding of eyes. Muscle or fat in that area is either removed, altered, restructured or tightened. Another surgery to fight the signs of aging. Full recovery can only be expected after 2-3 months of surgery.

Facial implants: face is remodeled by using specifically shaped implants to heighten or accentuate cheekbones, jaw line, or chin. Duration is usually ½-2 hours with local or general anesthesia. Recovery period is 3-4 weeks.

Augmentation mammaplasty: breasts are enlarged by placing inflatable implants filled with saline water or antibiotic solution or silicon. Duration of surgery is 1-2 hours and complete recovery is achieved in 3-4 weeks. Although the scars may take a year or two to fade out completely.

Mastopexy: better understood as breast lift is done by removing excess skin (aged) and replacing and positioning muscles and tissue to bring out the effect desired. Surgery may go on for 1-3 hours. One entire month is required for complete recovery.

The last two procedures are very common and widely performed on a variety of people but that doesn’t undermine their medical intricacies. In any case, choose a reliable surgeon who is well known for his work. Try to talk to people who have got surgeries from the particular clinic and ask about the consequences and what they felt now that they had reshaped their bodies and had their desired looks. Make sure the clinic offers good after surgery services so that if any complications arise you can always go back there.
